Update Lenovo BIOS on Linux

Use these steps if fwupd does not work to update the firmware from Linux.

This guide was written from the perspective of an Arch Linux user with a T14s Gen 1 on 2024-26-12.

Steps

  1. Download the BIOS ISO from your product support site under the BIOS/UEFI section:
  2. Convert it to a bootable image: geteltorito.pl -o bios.img <iso path>.
    • AUR Package
    • Ubuntu Package: The command may not have the .pl suffix.
    • A container can be used if your platform does not have access to an equivalent package. Mount a directory containing the ISO in the container using -v.
  3. Copy the bios.img file to your USB device:
    • Ventoy
    • Untested: dd if=bios.img of=<block device path> bs=8MB status=progress && sync -f <block device path>.
  4. Boot from the USB device and let the BIOS update proceed.

Update Lenovo BIOS on Linux

This guide was written from the perspective of a Linux user with an HP T740 on 07-07-2026.

Steps

  1. Download the BIOS archive from your product support site under the BIOS section:
  2. Extract it to a directory: 7z x <file> <directory>.
  3. Create an MSDOS parition table on the USB stick.
  4. Create a new 4GB FAT32 partition called HP_TOOLS.
  5. Copy <extracted>/ToolLess/HP to the root of the new partition.
  6. Create a Previous directory in HP/BIOS. It should be a sibling of Current and Future.
  7. Plug into the HP T740 and enter the BIOS with F10.
  8. Select Update Bios utility and pick the from USB option.

Setup Sony A75L OLED, Denon S760H, and Apple TV

Ensure the Apple TV is plugged into one of the 8K ports on your reciever to allow maximum bandwidth. The cables from TV <-> Denon <-> Apple TV should be 8K 60HZ compatible. I have 2 10ft cables from Amazon Basics working fine.
